Volunteers host rest stop in pocket park

Neighborhood volunteers have it made in the shade today and Sunday! They’re staffing a rest stop for cyclists who are on their way to the U.S. Grand Prix, the annual F1 races held at Circuit of the Americas in Southeast Austin.

Volunteers are handing out maps of the bike route to Circuit of the Americas, including directions for the confusing intersection of Burleson-Ben White Boulevard (Texas 71). Click to enlarge.

So far several dozen riders have passed through, and volunteers have visited with people from England, Scandinavia, France, Mexico and Philadelphia on their way to the track.

If you’d like to hang out with neighbors and Austin visitors while providing a public service, stop by any time between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. this weekend. We’re sitting under a large white canopy and handing out free bottled water and granola bars, maps and bike safety brochures. You can even play ukulele while you’re there.

And if you’re driving in the area, please watch for cyclists crossing the street at the pocket park, 3200 Burleson Road.
