Improving Austin Streams forum on Oct. 9

In a followup to a series of public meetings that began in November 2012, the City of Austin Watershed Protection Department and the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality will soon hold a public forum on reducing bacterial contamination in Austin Creeks.

Improving Austin Streams public forum
When: 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Oct. 9
Where: One Texas Center, Room 325, 505 Barton Springs Road
More information: http://www.utexas.edu/law/centers/cppdr/services/tmdl.php

The effort to get the public involved in solving water quality problems was spurred by bacteria levels in creeks that exceed standards allowed for recreation. At the forum, a citizen committee that formed last year will present a draft plan that provides strategies to improve the health of Austin streams.

The creek through our neighborhood, Country Club Creek West, is one of several Austin waterways that exceed the state standards for bacteria. Learn more about our  creek and the citywide effort to improve stream quality in a Nov. 24, 2012, blog post.
